Darren Duarte, Director of Communications for Brockton Police and cofounder of Cabo Verde Network, attended Howard University with Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris between 1982 – 1986.

“She ran for Student Council as a freshman. So she always kind of knew what she wanted to do and look at her now,” said Darren Duarte.

While attending Howard University, Darren Duarte worked his first job in Capital Hill for a member of the House Representatives while Kamala Harris worked in the Senate.

“She worked for Senator Alan Cranston of California at the time. The next senator was Barbara Boxer. The next after that was her.”

Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris is an inspiration to young women, girls, and others as she breaks barriers and paves a new path, setting the example that all things are possible no matter your race or gender.
