On January 16, 2017, the Associacao Caboverdiana de Brockton, Inc. (ACVB) hosted its 2nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. family event. The event took place at St. Edith Stein Church in Brockton.

The community showed up in droves to understand the man and how important Dr. King’s message is. Volunteers/Tutors of ACVB provided insight into the life and legacy of a great man who provided hope to a divided America. Students from ACVB’s after-school program took excerpts of the famous “I Have A Dream” speech and read it aloud.

Special guest speaker Reverend Oscar Joseph Pratt II, divulged further into Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s awe-inspiring words. Speaking on the undertone of all Dr. King’s sermons; which is love. Stated that the speeches that were given then, still lives true today. We all need to learn to love one another despite each other’s differences. Especially when ushering in a new president that made many racial commentaries. Rev. Pratt II then read scriptures and lead the children to the table where they participated in Art & Crafts with members of the Boys & Girls Scouts of America in attendance to lend a hand.
