The president of the Cape Verdean Basketball Association (ACVB), Tino Brazao, partnered with Tony Barbosa of Associação Mão Amiga de Cabo Verde (AMA-CV) to deliver uniforms and basketballs to youth of Nhagar including a local team, Bulldogs de Nhagar, in hopes that it would help them with participation in the national championship league in Praia.
AMA-CV is a local non profit based in Assomada with a mission to help improve the quality of life in Cabo Verde by rebuilding rooftops, construct bathrooms for inner city people, school supplies for kids, and other activities of youth engagement to try and sway youth from life on the streets. The Camara Municipal de Santa Catarina (Mayor’s Office equivalent) contributed and helped with organizing the event in Assomada, Santiago. Brazao of ACVB met with Asomada city officials and President Jacinta Monteiro to discuss projects involving youth development focused around basketball.

In efforts to connect with the Cabo Verdean diaspora, the president of ACVB also toured the Northern region of Santiago to meet with local city officials to discuss partnerships and ways the organization can be of support in the region. The President met with officials in Orgons to discuss building an outdoor basketball facility, a project in progress with the municipal official.
ACVB is committed to it mission of humanitarian projects and connecting communities. The organization is working with the CV National Basketball Federation (FCBB) to launch its first high school league. The President said the high school league is a great way to keep youth motivated and more engaged in school. This initiative is one of many ways the organization is looking to establish its presence in Cabo Verde.
