ABC played Bairro without their best player, Tony Barros. ABC handed Bairro their worst loss of the season, 59-38. Vinny Lima of ABC had an enormous performance with 22 points, 21 rebounds, and 3 steals. Clube Desportivo ABC continues playing team basketball with Lima giving them a boost after losing John Varela for the rest of the season with an injury. ABC is still hoping that Joao Silva will make his presence felt in the game. Silva continues to struggle shooting and lacking rebound, but Silva is playing well without the ball by setting screens and setting up his players. Meanwhile, Yannick Paiva finished the game with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Bairro scored a season low 38 points, and the team struggled on defense. The team finished a combined 21 rebounds, a total rebound that Lima seized.

Paulo Pina, guard, Volcanic

Lenfer defeated Volcanic 55 to 54. It was an intense game mainly due to Volcanic’s team defense and Chris Owden‘s perimeter shooting. Owden scored 5 3-pts in the second half alone. He finished with 23 points and 9 rebounds. The team has shown more improvement since adding Owden, but they need more help from their young players like Paulo Pina who was 0 for 5 from the 3-pt line and 6 for 14 from the field. The team expects more effort from Pina due to his height, energy, and given his age. Pina is 20 years old and one of the tallest players in the team at 6’3.  Clayton Moreno Timas, Lenfer, finished the game with 13-points and 9 rebounds, and Lerne Depina, Lenfer, finished with 18 points, his season high.

Campana Lança remains undefeated at 6-0. The team continues to perform with excellence, poise, and confidence. They have earned their respect. This week, Campana played Predio and defeated them 79 to 63. The team shot 12 for 29 from the 3-pt line, which is unusual for Campana. Manny Monteiro shot 3 for 10 from 3-pt, his lowest average thus far. The entire team can shoot from beyond the arc which is their biggest strength, as well as the team averaging less than 4 turnovers per game. Monteiro, said there is no secret to his team success. He said his team plays hard, and share the ball unselfishly. He gives credit to his players for having cohesion and always showing up to play.

Every team wants to challenge Campana Lança. Tino Brazao, the Lenfer team captain said on Sunday, they are looking forward to their rematch against Campana on May 21. He said the team will not allow Vicente to beat their team on his own, and he will commit to put a clamp on Vicente. Tino believes his team has what it takes in taken down Campana.
