Because it was Easter Sunday, every team was shorthanded for this week’s match-ups. Perhaps the team most impacted was ABC as their players were not in sync the entire game. ABC could not find their shot from beyond the 3-pt line. The team lacked in defense allowing Vulcanicos to score 62 points, likely as a direct result of missing their most important defensive weapon, John Varela, who underwent his surgery this week. The team also lacked rebounding and defending the paint. ABC’s biggest man in the game, Joao Paulo at 6’4, only grabbed 3 rebounds. Vulcanicos’ Chris Owden was the spark plug the team had been missing. He is quick and fearless and can hit shots off the dribble, and ABC did not have an answer for him. Owden finished the game with 24-pts, 6 steals, and 7 assist. Volcanic defeated ABC 62-50. The win against ABC gave Volcanic’s confidence going into week 6 against Campana Lança.

Campana defeated Bairro 86-71. Campana continues to show poise on the court with their consistent shooting led by their shooting guard Anthony Vicente, who scored 31-pts and 8-assists. Campana is the only undefeated team in the league at 5-0. Bairro meanwhile, is on another losing streak, currently last place on the league. They played this game without their main scorer, Tony Barros, and defender, Amarildo Barbosa.

The most anticipated game of week was the matchup between Lenfer and Predio, fueled by decades of rivalry in Praia. Besides fighting for pride, the two teams were battling for third place in the standings. The teams had the same record going into this week. Predio had an edge the first half winning by double digits going into the break. However, Lenfer did not give in this game. Second half belonged to Lenfer with Tino Brazao owning the paint with 16 rebounds, despite being undersized at 6’3 going against Predio’s 6’9 center Jose Silva. Brazao finished the game 18 points. Brazao leads the league with 3 double-doubles. Vladimir Tavares, of Predio, suffered a knee injury at the end of the game, and he is questionable for the next week. Lenfer defeated Predio 49-46.
